What this programme is
“Charlie and the Sea Lions” is a family circus show rated 0+. Thirty performers from different countries work in the ring: aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, equilibrists and animal trainers. The show is led by Charlie the clown from Germany, and its most recognisable act is the trained sea lions.
This is the most child-friendly programme the company has. Two hours of light, music, custom costumes and tricks that bring whole families to the circus, youngest viewers included.
Who performs
Charlie the clown
The running character of the show and its lead. Charlie does not merely appear with a routine between acts: he guides the audience through the whole show and ties the separate episodes into one story. He came to the programme from Germany.
Sea lions
The trained sea lions are the act that makes children ask to come back to the circus. Work with the animals is built on reinforcement and a routine familiar to them, so the act always runs at a pace that is comfortable for the sea lions.
Aerialists, acrobats and jugglers
Aerial gymnastics, duo and group acrobatics, juggling and equilibristics. The delivery is aimed at family audiences: difficult tricks are presented clearly, without tension-building or frightening pauses.
How the show unfolds
The programme runs in two acts with an interval. Bright costumes, modern lighting and carefully built choreography keep the rhythm: an animal act is followed by an aerial one, acrobatics by a Charlie routine. A child's attention never has time to drift, and there is plenty for the adults to watch.
Who the show is for
- families with pre-schoolers — rated 0+, with no loud or frightening episodes;
- those taking a child to the circus for the first time;
- children's groups and holiday outings;
- adults who prefer a warm programme to a large, demanding spectacle.
Length and format
The show runs 120 minutes in two acts with an interval, rated 0+. Start times differ from city to city and are shown on the ticketing service page.
How to buy a ticket
Circus Asia does not sell tickets directly and charges no commission. In the schedule of this show each city has a button leading to the official ticketing service; tickets are also sold at venue box offices. After the last day of the run in a city the button switches itself off — no one lands on a dead link.
